What Spectrum Should I Use for Strawberries

Every summer, there is a kind of fresh, sweet, and juicy fruit that can always arouse people's expectation of summer, that is strawberry.

With the improvement in living standards, people consume more strawberries year by year. For some cities with high population density, indoor planting strawberries is becoming more and more popular.

In greenhouses, we often see strawberries growing under pink light. This is because, during the day, strawberries receive a lot of sunlight, i.e. the full spectrum; Therefore, we only need to provide them with a lot of red light at night to promote flowering so that we can get more fresh and sweet fruits and increase the yield.

However, indoor growing is completely different from greenhouse growing in that there is no natural light indoors, and to achieve the same effect as greenhouse growing, we must redefine the spectrum.

Suitable Light Density & User-friendly

As it is grown indoors, we must ensure that the strawberries receive the same intensity of light as grown in the greenhouse and that the light is comfortable for manual picking.

Firstly, we found that strawberries can grow rapidly under the light intensity of 400-600 PPFD; Therefore, we will design the spectrum according to the light demand of strawberries at this intensity;

Best Spectrum for Strawberries

Knowing the red light has a positive incentive for flowers, we tried many different light formulas tent to get the better and better growth result. After 3 years of grow tests, by hundreds of test samples, we found this spectrum not only produces the highest yield but also shortens the grow cycle.

The spectrum we tested combined 3 spectrums, the full spectrum diode, the 660nm and the 730nm far-red.

During strawberries flowering stage, we found that far-red light can reduce the flowering period by up to 15% and enable quicker crop turnover, so to shorten the growth cycle.
